There was a major clue inDune : Part Twothat the war between House Harkonnen and House Atreides had been raging for hundred . While speaking with the Fremen , Paul told them that he could be instrumental in fight back the Harkonnens due to the story his family had with them , saying , " You ’ve been fight the Harkonnens for decades . My family ’s been fight them for hundred . " While the ancient war was reference , Dune : Part Twonever bring up any more of the history or how it commence , butDune : Prophecycould fill in some of those gaps .

Dune: Prophecy Could Explore The Origins Of House Atreides & House Harkonnen’s War

The Bene Gesserit could have manufactured the war as part of their search for the Kwisatz Haderach

The Bene Gesserit are mostly known for their magical big businessman , but their greatest strength was their ability to misrepresent the politics of the Imperium . Most of their political maneuverings were meant to insure the ancestry that would subsequently make the Kwisatz Haderach , and that goal often focus on the major houses . As such , Dune : Prophecycould show the Bene Gesserit ’s first steps to breeding the Kwisatz Haderach , and by extension , the beginnings of the war between House Harkonnen and House Atreides . Since both houses will seem in the show , a conflict between them could attend the Bene Gesserit ’s hidden agendas .

Dune : Prophecyis set to premiere on Max in fall 2024 .

By the time of Paul Atreides , the state of war between House Harkonnen and House Atreides had become so bitter and harsh that Baron Harkonnen was unforced to destroy them completely . While that conclusion was influenced by the Baron ’s avarice and the Emperor ’s fears , centuries of heinous turn of warfare would have helped revolutionise such resentment .
