Fuji and John Blackthorne ’s net vista inShōgunepisode 10 was the perfect conclusion to their character bow and spotlight the only thing the Anjin succeeded in doing . TheShōgunfinale confirmed FX ’s adaptation of the James Clavell novel as one of the best limited series of recent twelvemonth , satisfyingly wrapping up the stories of all the type without the need for a major fight or too much exposition . Shōgunepisode 10was as subtle as the rest of the show , leading to emotional chronological succession like the one with Fuji and Blackthorne on the gravy holder .

While it seemed likeShōgunepisode 10 was going to have a fate of actionand depict Toranaga ’s win against Ishido on the battlefield , the finale went for a far more introspective glide path . Similarly to the original novel , Shōgunended with audiences learning that Lord Toranaga ’s end was indeed to become shōgun the whole prison term . John Blackthorne will never exit Japan , and Lady Mariko ’s death was a sacrifice Toranaga was counting on . One of the best scenes not only ofShōgun ’s finis but of the show as a whole , Fuji and Blackthorne ’s conversation on the gravy holder take care grief play them together . While Fuji and the Anjin had been friends since the latter was made hatamoto , episode 10 made their bond even hard due to their shared heartbreak . Fuji had been mourn the demise of her hubby and babe small fry since the root of the show , whereas Blackthorne had just lost Mariko . Fuji was about to leave , but Blackthorne asked her to join him first for a rite she was not conversant with .

Fuji had been convey the ashes of her husband and kid , stating she could not countenance go of it . The Anjin decide to demo her with the concept of toss the ash into the ocean , which , concord to his belief , would make indisputable her family would live on eternally . Interestingly , the scene with Blackthorne and Fuji on the boat does not happen in the book . Fuji ’s quality spark was quite different from the informant textile , yet the changes were all positive . Even though they could barely understand each other without a transcriber , there was a potent connexion between Blackthorne and Fuji that made their last aspect perfect . The Anjin would still have one more picture on the shore before the credits rolled , but the moment in which he lets Mariko ’s interbreeding go was the true ratiocination to his case electric arc .

There was also a major parallel between the boat scene andShōgun ’s first instalment , during which Fuji had to kill her Word as part of her husband ’s seppuku ritual . When Mariko went to Fuji in episode 1 to assist her during such a tragic bit , the former recite the latter to fill in the seppuku ritual herself instead of letting the guards do it . “Let your hands be the last to prevail him”is what Mariko told Fuji . InShōgunepisode 10,Fuji told Blackthorne to let his hands“be the last to have her . ”

Without Blackthorne , Fuji might have never see the peace treaty she did in episode 10 .

Blackthorne’s Ashes Ceremony With Fuji Proved He Accomplished Something While In Japan

Blackthorne helped Fuji move on while forever remembering the family she lost

John Blackthorne come out the show hoping to wage warfare against his enemiesand use his prison term on Japan to reduce the Portuguese ’s influence in the realm amidst the conflict between Catholics and Protestants in Europe . He would then become tightlipped to Mariko and Toranaga , leading to his time as hatamoto of an extremely powerful lord who was at war against the rest of the Council of Regents . The only thing Blackthorne want at the final stage of the serial publication was to return home and grow old , which is made clear by his dreaming of the future shown at the beginning of episode 10 . However , he will never leave Japan , and nothing he tried to do during the upshot of the show worked . It can be argued that Blackthorne ’s only accomplishment in Japan other than serving as a distraction for Toranaga ’s enemies was to make important bonds , peculiarly with Mariko and Fuji . Without Blackthorne , Fuji might have never found the peace she did in episode 10 .
