Kit Harington’s Blood For Dust Character Has An Intricate Backstory
Screen claptrap : Your accent and mustache inBlood for Dustwere creative thinker - blowing . What was the summons of deciding Ricky ’s prohibited shell ? Did you know first that he would speak like that or see like that ? And how do you get him to where he is on screen ?
Kit Harington : It was perhaps one of the first determination made to have him have a moustache , but it come from conversations about who he is and his backstory . As is allude to in the film with the language he generate , I call up he comes from a scope of neglect and abuse . I intend he was raised by TV , so that was a conversation me and Rod had . I felt that he was sort of raised watch sure TV depict where the fuzz or the speculative guy rope have these mustaches .
But it was never meant to be a handlebar . It was just go to be like that . And then as you do , you jump whittling it down and I was like , " Whoa , whoa , stop there . That ’s kind of Ricky . " But I do n’t know whether I ’m ever die to do it again , so this is the one prison term that I might ’ve rock a handlebar .
The opening shot of the picture , which I guess is a short chip of a doubled entendre , really do the tone obviously for the whole fib and Cliff ’s motivation . But how does the destruction of their partner affect Ricky ? How does that influence his decision to join military unit with Cliff again ?
Kit Harington : I think you see it at the top . Ricky ’s reaction at the top is actually very different from the Ricky we see throughout the relief of the movie . He pretend to be much cool , much more chilled about stuff . His chemical reaction at the top of the movie is – it ’s not corrupt anything because it ’s the top of the moving-picture show – slamming at the window . He lets out swearing .
I conceive there ’s this affair about Ricky of , “ You went and ruined it . We had a good matter , and you go and ruin it . ” I think he ’s trying to get back to where they were in some way . He pulls Cliff ’s character reference back into this because he ’s like , “ You do n’t get to get out . We had a respectable thing . We ’re going to go for this last drive . ”The thing that really exhaust him up is when people leave him ; they leave behind the situation either by shooting themselves or get good , and he ’s like , “ No , you do n’t leave me . And peradventure that ’s to do with his ground of neglect or , I do n’t bonk . But that ’s kind of where I came up for him . ”
Blood for Dust is an action-crime thriller from director Rod Blackhurst, and follows a traveling salesman named Cliff. Cliff is given the chance to escape his unfortunate circumstances through a job offer by his old friend. Though hesitant, Cliff accepts, only to discover he’s been thrust into a dangerous gun and drug-running ring by a ruthless cartel leader.
You and Rod manifestly had a lot of conversations about this backstory . What else about his direct style really stood out to you or did you take anything off from it in this experience ?
Kit Harington : I make out his sort of planning . He had it all plan . He talked me through it when we first part confabulate , he knew what he was doing . It was very readable that this was a cat who had done his work and his homework and was n’t chancing his subdivision . It ’s the 2d feature film moving picture he ’s direct , but he ’s a new manager in many path . That was reassuring to me , and I felt that I was in secure hand from the beginning .
When we get to the large action sequences at the remainder , it ran like clockwork because he had rehearsed it and rehearsed it and rehearsed it with stuntmen beforehand and knew precisely what his shaft were move to be . I just really like working with people like that .
And this come from a office of citizenry he sort of acknowledge . I got the feeling with Rod that he ’d grow up in places where he ’d seen the other side of the curtain ; he ’d seen the Hades a footling bit and had friends he ’d lost to it . I think it comes from a place of knowledge as well .
Kit Harington & Scoot McNairy “Really Hit It Off” While Filming Blood For Dust
You and Scoot McNairy have several view together . You ’re on a journey together for most of the movie . What was that dynamic like ? How did you guys build out that relationship and also what are some of your favorite remembering on set of that dynamic duo ?
Kit Harington : Yeah , I ’d obviously really enjoy – like a lot of us have – Scoot ’s oeuvre for a long time before this . I knew him as an actor , and we just really hit it off . He ’s a very shiver beau and his approach to work is very , he ’s just a natural , he kind of number at it from a very relaxed place .
And I mean that not in a style that he knows what he wants , and he gets it almost easily – it seems , but I ’m sure it is n’t . I writhe my manner into things with pile of ego - torture . I do n’t come from a place of being a chill dude . It ’s a bit more torturous , I conceive . It ’s always overnice to shape with someone who comes from an opposite place a bit . We got on really well .
best-loved storage ? We were in Montana . We were surround by incredible beauty , and there ’s always something really special about going to a location that feel a bit unfounded and otherworldly and kind of at the ends of the earth . I can find everyone in Montana shout out at me that I ’m diminishing where they come from , but it feel [ that way ] to me as an English guy going over there . The other smashing thing was that it was in the winter . This was in the beginning meant to be a summer dust route movie , and it ended up being wintertime – which is one of those lovely mistakes that kind of realise a thing .
You cite the legal action successiveness near the terminal , and there are a lot of gunfights that must be difficult to set up . You ’ve done a lot of action , but I call up of you more as a sword slasher . How do you cook for artillery shot ?
Kit Harington : Well , I had n’t done a lot of gun stuff prior to this . I like action shot , and this seemed to have them . That was a expectant pull . I did go , which you do n’t have the chance to in the UK , I function to a range out in Montana to fire some guns so I knew what I was doing because it ’s not something in my setting I have and did a bit of my preparation there .
But one thing that I was quite clear or lancinate on is that it should n’t feel in any way glorifying , and I do n’t think this pic does . I think we were very careful how we shot some of those tantrum . If anything , it was Ricky flashing his gun , feel like a world , but we could see that it was a covering fire for everything and he should never attend too coolheaded with the gun . He look like a guy that sleep with guns , but not a guy who looks effortlessly cool with it .
You mentioned Ricky is the sort of guy rope who modeled himself after what he saw on the shows he watch . Did you have any Western or noir stories that you kind of take stirring from when forge Ricky ?
Kit Harington : Yeah . I opine it ’s been compare to , perhaps because it ’s a very late one , Hell or High Water . It was always a movie that felt like this motion-picture show because of the duo . I eff that movie , and it has a kind of Butch Cassidy Sundance Kid quality to it ; two hombre on the political campaign effectively . But it ’s a bit dark . I suppose it ’s darker than both of those movie . I guess there ’s something colder about it , which was appeal to my depressive side .
Updates on Game of Thrones Spinoffs, MCU Projects & More
We only got a glance of your potential future asBlack Knight in the MCU , but between hopefully aBlademovie and the many MCU TV shows coming up , is there a prospect for Dane to generate ? Is that something you ’re up for ?
Kit Harington : I go for that they do something with that character . I call back that character is fascinating and brilliant . And I love his trajectory in the comic strip . I love the approximation of a unspoiled guy being wrench spoilt by his world power . I think that ’s brilliant . I ’m not indisputable whether we ’ve had a protagonist that ’s like that , so I think it ’s a really unassailable thought . I ’d love them to [ revisit him ] .
I do n’t know , though . The honest answer is nothing ’s in the works at the instant . If they settle to utilize the character in something , or as a solo thing , I ’d be very excited by it . But I do n’t mean it ’s planned at the moment .
Another possible labor that rouse me is theGame of ThronesJon Snow spinoff . Is that still in development , and what is your vision for Jon Snow ’s future ?
Kit Harington : I had n’t really ever spoken about it , because it was in development . I did n’t want it leaked out that it was being developed , and I did n’t want the affair to befall where hoi polloi kind of start theorizing , get either excited about it or hating the idea of it , when it may never happen . Because in growing , you look at every angle , and you see whether it ’s deserving it .
And currently , it ’s not . Currently , it ’s off the table , because we all could n’t discover the correct story to tell that we were all excited about enough . So , we decided to lay down tools with it for the time being . There may be a sentence in the future where we repay to it , but at the import , no . It ’s firmly on the shelf .
In more promising news , what is next for you ? What are you excited to step into or genres that you require to tackle ?
Kit Harington : I do n’t jazz , really . I ’m doing a play this summer , which I ’m really excited about . Could be nice to be back on the stage . And as for after in the year , I ’m currently looking for something . There are a couple of things that could be interesting , but we ’ll see . I ’m never a person with a very decipherable plan . I just see what turn up and what ’s interesting , and then adjudicate whether it ’s worth kind of being away from the kids for X amount of time .
