Yabushige Was Such An Interesting Character That He Was Hard To Play

Kashigi Yabushige is easily one of the most interesting member ofShōgun ’s casting of characters . At his introduction , which saw him watching one of Blackthorne ’s men be moil alive on his order , Yabushige appeared to be a straightforward villain . As the show progressed , however , Yabushige was depict to be anything but straightforward . It turns out that that made him a much more difficult fibre to play :
Tadanobu Asano : When they first give me the playscript , I thought , " Oh , this is an interesting eccentric . " But it ’s often a bunker when an actor thinks the quality is interesting when say the playscript . You tend to think , " Yeah , it ’s an interesting character , so I can do it . " Actually , it ’s the intemperate .
It ’s hard to make a character interesting out of an interesting hand , even more so than out of a shitty handwriting , because you think , " This is a majuscule character , but how do I make it , with my acting , as interesting for the audience extremity ? ” That ’s where the actor ’s acquirement flexible joint , I think . To Yabushige, Death Is Everything

Asano Opened Up On Two Key Yabushige Relationships
Asano also discussed Yabushige ’s relationship with his nephew Omi and Toranaga’sHatamoto John Blackthorne . Both relationships are engrossing in their own right , with the new bond between Yabushige and Blackthorne proving to be one of the more surprising developments in episode 8 . Yabushige ’s rapport with his nephew Omi is also an interesting one , and was helped by a inviolable offscreen bond between Asano and Omi worker Hiroto Kanai . Here ’s what Asano had to say about the tumultuous family relationship between Yabushige and Blackthorne :
Tadanobu Asano : I thought it was a very interesting dynamic between the two character as well , because in the first and second instalment , Yabushige interacts with Blackthorne in quite a different means from the other samurai . He does n’t put on the line — he ’s just himself . Whereas the other samurai are judge to figure out if they can refer something that ’s unassailable . They ’re on sharpness whereas Blackthorne ’s just straightforward , and I think Blackthorne sees this in Yabushige and he thinks , “ Ah , this samurai , this guy , is dissimilar from the others . ” I reckon that was a very interesting kinship moral force .
And here ’s what Asano had to say about Yabushige and Omi :
Tadanobu Asano : It was a very interesting moral force that I had with my nephew on screen , and also with Hiroto , who plays Omi , my nephew . I was capable to become very close with him , as if I were in reality his uncle . Our relationship as actors almost overshadow our kinship on silver screen , and there were many secrets that we would share with each other that other people did n’t have to know about — just tiny little things that we would share amongst ourselves .
